Welcome

The Bristol Centre for Grief Research and Engagement focuses on interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research into grief, death and loss, aiming to increase understanding of these fundamental aspects of being human. Established in 2025, the Centre brings together programmes of research, scholarship, policy and civic engagement at the University of Bristol, building on successful advances by University academics, including the ground-breaking Good Grief Festival.

The Bristol Centre for Grief Research and Engagement provides the space for new thinking and innovative ideas and approaches. It will form an umbrella for collaborations with voluntary, community and social enterprise sector (VCSE) organisations, faith groups, artists and creatives, health and social care professionals and policy makers, and for co-production of research with communities.

Together, we aim to develop social and creative interventions, engage the public and policy makers and offer knowledge exchange initiatives to change the way grief and death are seen, supported and spoken about, helping to build more compassionate, connected communities.
